New Lighting Systems Standard Available for Solid State Lighting Retrofit Kits

ROSSLYN, VA – National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published ANSI C136.42-2019 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Solid State Lighting Retrofit Kits.

This Standard defines the mechanical and electrical requirements for transforming an installed high-intensity discharge (HID) roadway and area luminaire to a solid-state roadway and area luminaire. This Standard is limited to non-screwbase retrofit kits only.

“This document is needed to standardize the requirements for lighting retrofit kits used to convert existing HID outdoor luminaires to an LED light source,” said Kevin Fitzmaurice, Principal Engineer, Lighting and Smart Services, Georgia Power and Chair of ANSI Section for Roadway and Area Lighting.

Users of this Standard include but are not limited to outdoor lighting manufactures, public utilities, and municipalities.

ANSI C136.42-2019 is available in hard copy or as an electronic download for $39 on the NEMA website.
