On Friday, January 25, the National Academy of Construction presented international nonprofit organization Bridges to Prosperity with a grant of $59,197 during a check presentation event in Denver, Colorado.
The grant is an accumulation of the proceeds of a silent auction event at the 2018 National Academy of Construction annual member meeting, and will support Bridges to Prosperity’s work combatting rural isolation through the construction of footbridges. The generous gift will help to safely connect more than 1,500 people in isolated communities to schools, markets, jobs, health clinics, and hospitals year-round. This year’s grant marks the first in a five-year partnership between the NAC and Bridges to Prosperity, focused on creating transformative impact through the construction of vital infrastructure. “B2P gets to the very soul of the capital projects industry,” says NAC General Secretary Wayne Crew. “The Academy is proud to support the B2P mission.”
The check was presented by National Academy of Construction President Tom Sorley, past President Hugh Rice, and General Secretary Wayne Crew, and was received by Bridges to Prosperity Chief Executive Officer Avery Bang and Industry Program Director Devin Connell. To experience firsthand the impact of their gift, a number of National Academy of Construction
members will be traveling to Rwanda in the fall of 2019 to visit a community served by a Bridges to Prosperity footbridge.
The mission of the National Academy of Construction is to recognize and honor individuals for their distinguished contributions to the industry and to share this reservoir of expertise as a service to the nation.
Bridges to Prosperity envisions a world where poverty caused by rural isolation no longer exists. The organization works with local communities, governments, and partners to build footbridges that connect rural residents in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa to education, health care, and economic opportunity.
