Bill and Sean wrote the 2020 NEC version of PV and the NEC (book), which includes Energy Storage Systems (ESS). They teach the NEC workshop every year at SPI and will focus more on ESS than they have in the past for those of you looking for something different. Some things that get Bill and Sean uncontrollably excited are when they explain how we can interconnect two bidirectional EVs, two 10kWh ESSs and two 10kW PV systems on a single 100A service using 705.13 Power Control Systems rather than using 705.11 Supply-Side Source Connections or 705.12 Load-Side Source Connections. The 2020 NEC PV and ESS material is something that Bill is instrumental in writing and will be on Bill’s laptop before it is published by NFPA. He coined the term Rapid Shutdown, is currently working on the 2023 NEC and will have some material from his silicon crystal ball. We will also compare the 2017 NEC, which most people are using. NEC articles covered will include 690, 691, 705, 706, 710 and 712. Bill and Sean do not like old 480, so they will tell you why to ignore it and use 706 ESS. Bill and Sean have been teaching NEC Workshops together for 9 years. Bill has been teaching solar for over 3 decades and Sean for over a decade. Sean was the 2014 IREC Trainer of the Year, was awarded the 2019 APVIA award for Academic Contribution in Shanghai and was the 2020 SNEC Online Trainer of the Year. This workshop will count for 4 hours of NABCEP CE credit and include a huge handout of all of the slides. Besides being educational, this workshop will be one of the most fun things you can do online.
