The annual LFI Innovation Awards ceremony highlights innovative products and designs introduced during the prior 12 months. This year, 238 entries spanning 14 categories ranging from components to luminaires were submitted for consideration. An independent panel of lighting-industry professionals judged each submission. Category winners exemplify the best in innovative product design and thinking.
The architecturally styled PORTAL column provides designers with freedom and versatility when illuminating feature spaces. The slender column adds a striking accent while offering a selection of lighting options ranging from a single source for general illumination to the addition of optional low-level marker lights for accenting, as well as supplemental illumination.
PORTAL is available in 8’ or 10’ heights to meet varying pedestrian scale requirements. Anodized aluminum bezels surrounding the unique circular opening create a jewel-like accent contrasting with the slim rectilinear profile. The column features a concealed mounting structure and flangeless base for a graceful transition to grade.
Primary optics for PORTAL employ a sophisticated system using principles of edge lighting, refraction, and reflection. Four high-power LED light engines regressed within the top of the column are fitted with refractive lenses to produce a narrow elliptical beam directed to and captured by the multi-layered ringed lens. The molded optical quality ringed lens then refracts light downward to the ground and outward to be reflected by the anodized aluminum bezels. The result is a bi-directional forward throw distribution with uniform coverage at grade.
The column may include optional low-level marker lights in clusters of three with diffused or controlled optics for subtle highlighting or added pathway illumination. The controlled optics are available in a choice of asymmetric or forward throw distributions. The marker lights may be located on one or both sides of the column’s narrow width. Each side may have different distributions if desired or required by site lighting requirements. Color temperatures may be warm or neutral white.
The Portal product family includes complementary bollards for white light illumination or colored accenting, as well as an exterior rated EXIT bollard.
