Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems is excited to offer dual-function technology with its new AFCI/GFCI Receptacles.
By providing both ground fault and arc fault protection in one device, users are protected from harmful ground faults while buildings are protected against potential electrical fires.
By monitoring current flow in the branch circuit, AFCI devices protect against electrical fires that result from arcing. These arc faults may be caused by puncturing (nails, staples, etc.), loose electrical connections, overheated branch circuits, or pinched cord conductors.
GFCI devices monitor for ground fault leakage current, protecting against potentially harmful leakage in excess of 6mA.
Each device has its own unique set of sensing/analytical parameters. In both cases, power is interrupted if a ground fault or arc fault is detected. A green LED light indicates that power is on and functional; a red LED light indicates a trip condition.
A built-in safety features prevents the receptacle from resetting if it can’t provide protection or is reverse wired. If this is the case, the red LED light will flash as a warning.
“The AFCI/GFCI Receptacle provides protection in almost any environment: residential, commercial, healthcare, multifamily dwellings, hotels, long-term care, or dormitories,” says Glenn Murphy, senior product manager for Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems. “It’s also ideal for kitchens and laundry areas, which require both GFCI and AFCI protection.”
