Electrical Contractor Hosts Biggest Internship Class in 100 Year History
SAN JOSE, CA – Rosendin, the electrical contracting industry’s largest employee-owned firm celebrating 100 years in business, welcomed 92 students for a week of orientation to kick off its Summer Intern Program. This marks Rosendin’s largest class to date, with students from 46 colleges and universities, including 19 who are returning for the second or third year.
Rosendin’s Intern Week, held June 11–14 in San Jose, gave students hands-on experiences with opportunities to make key contacts and learn about different aspects of the company. After orientation, Interns are sent to Rosendin’s regional offices to work on well-known, large scale projects such as LAX Airport’s Automated People Mover Project.
“Our goal is to hire 100% of our interns after they finish their education, so it’s important to give them engaging, real world experience on high profile projects that excite them for a career in the industry,” said Rosendin Chairman/CEO, Tom Sorley. “We try to give our Interns the right amount of responsibility, guidance and freedom so they can succeed no matter what industry they choose.”
Rosendin Interns are assigned to offices across the country where they work alongside full-time employees solving real-world construction industry challenges in Project Management, Estimating, Engineering, Safety, Cost Accounting and more.
Charla Johnson is a Civil Engineering major at the University of Arizona who returned for a third internship with Rosendin at its regional office in Aiea, Hawaii.
“After my first-year interning at Rosendin, I knew this was the company I wanted to work for when I graduate and potentially until I retire,” said Johnson. “During my past two internships, I spent the first half in the office and the second half in the field, which allowed me to learn a lot and get exposure to various things.”
Seth Frank, a Junior at UC Berkeley, returned to Rosendin for his second internship. He’s studying Mechanical Engineering and will be working as a Project Management Intern at the San Francisco International Airport.
“Rosendin’s intern program provides the perfect blend of guidance and responsibility, making sure that I can complete meaningful tasks,” said Frank. “The team I’m working with is phenomenal, and my senior project manager and mentor have helped me learn a ton and convinced me to pursue a career within construction management, hopefully with Rosendin.”
Will O’Rourke is a second year Safety Intern at Rosendin’s Charlotte, North Carolina office who is entering his senior year at Murray State University where he is studying Occupational Safety and Health.
“My internship experience at Rosendin has been nothing less than a first-class eye opener to the professional world,” said O’Rourke. “Rosendin gives you the freedom, as an intern, to complete tasks your desired way, but they also hold you accountable and make sure you’re aware of the job completion date.”
This year, Rosendin is celebrating 100 years in business with a variety of events including a look at “100 Empowering Events” that shaped the company. They are being shared online with #Rosendin100 and #SharedSuccess1919.
