New Connector and Tool Design Simplifies CAT6 Modular Plug Termination, Eliminates Errors
SYCAMORE, ILLINOIS – Jeff Meader, DataComm Business Unit Manager of IDEAL® Electrical, announced today the launch of the Feed-Thru RJ-45 Modular Plugs and FT-45™ Modular Plug Crimping Tool for CAT5e and CAT6 twisted pair cables. The new design allows the individual conductors to “feed-thru” the end-face of the connector, which helps to simplify assembly and termination. Users can visually verify that the conductors are in the proper order before crimping the plugs.
“Anyone who has assembled traditional standard or multi-piece modular plugs knows that it’s a time-consuming and often error-prone process,” said Meader. “Our new IDEAL modular plugs and crimp tools have been engineered to help simplify the overall installation process – no more wasted materials and no more wasted labor.”
Engineered from the ground up, the IDEAL Feed-Thru system is compatible with standard RJ-45 plugs as well as other feed-thru style connectors. The tool requires less than half the hand force to crimp and a result, no ratchet mechanism is required. A heavy-duty custom blade lasts for over 2,000 cycles, and replacement blades are available.
Among other key benefits, the design of the IDEAL connector and use of the FT-45™ tool provides a flush cut of the conductors to the end-face of the connector. The flush cut helps eliminate issues with near-end crosstalk and minimizes conductor-to-conductor shorts due to wire tips that protrude beyond the end of the connector. The FT-45™ tool is compact in size; fits in your pocket and is about half the size and weight of traditional crimp tools.
The Feed-Thru connectors are available in CAT5e and CAT6 models. Both are single piece connectors, which for CAT6, means no specific measurements or multi-piece assembly is required. The FT-45™ Feed-Thru Modular Plug Crimp Tool is designed specifically for RJ-45 connectors and will crimp feed-thru, standard, and shielded RJ-45’s for CAT5e and CAT6.
