Landis+Gyr Releases New Street Light Controller

Landis+Gyr announced commercial availability of the newest addition to its line of grid-edge intelligent devices, the Street Light Controller, a key component of its street light management solution that supports advanced monitoring and management of lighting to improve energy and operational efficiency.

Operating as part of Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream® Connect IoT platform, the street light management solution includes both the hardware and software necessary to manage High Pressure Sodium and LED luminaires. The controller, which replaces the factory photo sensor, can integrate with existing lamp infrastructure. It uses Landis+Gyr’s Network Node to connect with the broader smart grid network and can also route messages from other area sensors and devices.

Features of the street light management solution include: Asset management capabilities with map visualization of each device; Monitoring of luminaire health; Creation of dimming schedules; Generation of service tasks; Reporting of performance, energy use and measurement of other power values.

The street light management software integrates with Landis+Gyr’s Command Center to enable utilities to monitor lights, receive reports and set alarms. Utilities can realize energy savings using the scheduled dimming feature based on location and traffic patterns, as well as operational savings from extended life of lighting assets and reduced maintenance.

“Modern lighting solutions not only provide an initial 20 percent energy savings, they also have the capability to perform a variety of public safety and traffic management functions,” said Doug Jeademann, Vice President of Product Lines at Landis+Gyr. “Now with Landis+Gyr network connectivity at every street light, utilities can leverage both the network and sensor functions for other smart city applications.”

Gridstream Connect is a comprehensive IoT platform built on a leading-edge smart grid network that connects intelligent devices, such as meters and sensors, across the utility distribution system. By leveraging hardware, software and application development, Gridstream Connect provides a strong and flexible platform for smart city and utility IoT applications.
